The period of residency for the Northern Res. Deduction does not ask the actual no. of days at the northern location. I was on site every month but only a total of 179 d.

I found an article that discusses how you might be allowed to claim this deduction here:

Now, in order to claim the right number of days in the program you will have to "fudge" the dates you lived in the northern residence. You will not be able to enter the full calendar year, but instead enter a couple of dates so the total is not more than 179 days.
