Sometimes I go to a store and when I checkout they ask if I want to make a donation to whatever cause. Can these be claimed as charitable donations on my tax return?

A lot of times when I go shopping at a store, they ask if I want to make a donation to whatever cause then they add an amount I choose to my bill. Can I claim these as donations on my return?

In order for a charitable donation to be eligible, it must be made to qualifying registered charity and an official Charitable Donation receipt issued for it.

A charity may decide to give receipts only for donations over $10, so you probably will not receive a receipt for small amounts added to your bill.
