Why am i asked to provide child income when they are no longer dependants?

If your children have been listed as dependants (either this year or in past years if you have imported your information from last year), their income is required to calculate certain credits such as medical expenses, tuition transfer, etc.

If you are not claiming any dependant credits or deductions, you may remove the dependants entirely from your return.
