Has anyone used the platform TaskRabbit?

Hi all,

I haven't applied for it yet but like the title says, I was wondering how tax is filed for it and what kind of paperwork is required from them.

Also, not sure if this could be answered. Do I require a business number for this type of job?

I'm in British Columbia

Thanks!

I’m not too familiar with TaskRabbit, but if it’s like Uber Eats or other “freelancer” companies, then you’ll want to report this income as Self-Employment income using the T2125 Statement of Business or Professional Activities. That way you’ll be able to deduct expenses that you paid while doing your TaskRabbit work.

If you're using TurboTax Online, it’s easy to get to the Self-Employment section. Just, click on the “Find” icon in the top right and search for “Self”. Select “Self-Employment” and then click the “Go” button. You can use any version of TurboTax to enter your Self-Employment income and expenses, but you may find it easier to use TurboTax Self-Employed Online.

We have a video on YouTube that goes over creating a Self-Employed return in TurboTax Self-Employed Online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzszSEVEv-U. It’s for tax year 2018, but much of it is still relevant.

You don’t need a business number unless you are required to collect GST/HST. This CRA page has more info on who needs to register for a GST/HST number: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/when-regis...
