This error usually happens when the 'digital envelope' for your return has a formatting glitch. Before considering a paper return, please ensure your software is fully updated and check that there are no special characters (like & or extra spaces) in your address or name fields. Most of the time, clearing out any unused blank forms in your 'Tax Tools' will resolve the formatting issue.
Please check your personal information, like your name, address, SIN, etc. Make sure the information matches what the CRA has for you. Hidden characters (like a weird dash or an invisible space) can break the XML formatting.
