I'm a missionary in another country. I've filed taxes in that country already. I have received donations, mostly from family members. Where do I report my donations that I received, and what donations do I include? Do I include donations from family members and friends? Do I include donations that I was not in control of that went to my organization that I'm with on my behalf to pay for housing? I also received above a certain amount in donations, so will probably need to do a U.S. tax return, as I'm a U.S. citizen. What form do I use to report this U.S. income? How do I avoid double/triple taxation?
Also, what is my residency situation? I still have my parents' houses in Canada that I come back to this year, so am probably a factual/deemed resident, but I was away from Canada all of last year. I have a residence permit in this country where I'm serving.
You must file taxes with the IRS if you are a citizen of the United States. You are exempt from filing Canadian taxes if you do not have a SIN or a Canadian residency status.
