No Releve 1 when working in Quebec

Hello,

I work in Quebec.  In 2024, I changed managers and he is based in Ontario.  After the change, I stopped paying taxes in Quebec and only payed taxes in Ontario.  This resulted in only receiving a Rel1 for the period before the change and 2 T4s with one showing I paid taxes in QC and the other showing I only paid taxes in Ontario.

Is this normal?

Yes. Even though you are a resident of Québec, in some situations (when your employer does not have a permanent office in Québec), you will only receive a T4 to report your employment income and no Relevé 1.

In this case, enter all the information in the T4 step, including the province of employment (box 10) and the employer’s name. When you are done, click on Save T4 & Skip Relevé 1.

On the summary page, even if you see an amount in the Relevé 1 Box A column, you do not need to go into the Relevé 1 and remove this amount. This is the way the amount is reported, because even if you did not receive a Relevé 1, you must pay taxes on the Québec tax return for this employment income. This is just a way to show you that this employment income will also be included on the Québec tax return.

No Releve 1 when working in Quebec

Hello,

The company I work for is across Canada and head office is in Quebec.  I have always received a T4 and Rel 1.  Now in July 2024, I reported to a department based in Ontario, but still work in Quebec.  I received 2 T4s and 1 Rel 1.  It seems that after July 2024, I was no longer paying Quebec income tax.

@victornov Yes, it can happen. You'll find the solution to your situation in this article: How do I enter a T4 and matching relevé slip?
