Yes, you can use TurboTax to prepare your tax return. However, as a non-resident, you will not be able to use NETFILE to file your return online. Instead, you’ll need to printout your return and mail or fax it to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
FYI: TurboTax Online only accepts Canadian or US credit cards as payment. The TurboTax mobile app allows you to pay via Google Pay or Apple Pay (depending on which version you use).
Yes, you will need to mail in your return if you are a non-resident.
As per our TurboTax article Taxation for Non-Residents.
If you are a non-resident, you need to file a special tax return – Form 5013-R T1 (Income Tax and Benefit Return for Non-Residents and Deemed Residents of Canada).
Most filers use their Social Insurance Number on these forms, but if you don’t have one, obtain an Individual Tax Number using Form T1261 (Application for a CRA ITN for Non-Residents). You may have to file additional forms depending on the type of income you earn.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Further question re non residents. I have in the past purchased Turbo Tax, and done as above, prepared my non-resident return and mailed it in.
But.....current problem....I am trying to purchase online the 2022 Turbo Tax, and it will not let me fill in a credit card with a non-Canadian address. How can I purchase the download????
@KathyM4 Unfortunately if you want to buy TurboTax CD/Download directly from us, we only accept Canadian or US credit cards as payment. However, you may be able to find a 3rd party retailer that sells TurboTax CD/Download who accepts a different form of payment, or foreign credit cards.
App won't let me get past being a non resident! If I don't live in Canada how can I choose a province?
