Open TurboTax
Hello,
I've pretty much completed filing all my and my wife's tax information and was reviewing information before sending it.
My wife had no income this year for personal reason and I was the sole income, but we wanted the family allowance to go to her. Somehow, Turbotax choose to have me receive the amount. I can't figure out where to change it.
Anyone knows where to fix this?
Missing information, we're Québec resident and I'm talking about the Family allowance which turbotax describe this way:
Family Allowance was previously called Québec child assistance payments. This is a form of financial assistance paid to all eligible families with one or more dependent children under the age of 18 living with them.
Can you please clarify where you see that the family allowance is claimed by you?
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
One year later, a similar thing happened to me at the "Bottom Line - Québec Tax Return" section. My spouse already claims the Family Allowance benefit for Quebec. If I send my TurboTax claim as is, will it change who gets the benefit or, is this just a notification that it thinks I qualify?
Cheers!
@NBUserQC88 The family allowance benefit is calculated and given to the parent who's name is on file. To change the parent who receives it, you must contact Family Allowance Quebec. How to reach us All this being said, if it is your wife that receives the family allowance, it will stay that way. TurboTax cannot change that. It is just a notification that you can ignore. Thanks.
