Last year my wife and I filed jointly and only 1 tax return was generated using Turbo Tax. I had to mail it because I was not living in Canada since 2016. My wife received a NOA indicating she did not owe any taxes - however there was no access code. My NOA did have an access code.
This year I noticed that there are 2 tax returns generated using Turbo Tax. 1 for my wife and 1 for me, even though we are filing jointly. Is This standard?
Also, can my access code be used to file for both me and my wife? I want to use NETFILE.
Yes, even if you file a joint return, you and your spouse have to submit your tax returns separately through NetFile. The access code is optional and not mandatory. Moreover, it can only be utilized by the person whose name is mentioned on the Notice of Assessment.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
