Open TurboTax
I have an ITF account showing my son as beneficiary (my name ITF son name). I understand while was a minor all dividends, capital gains, etc were to be reported on my income tax. He is now over 18 and have been advised that the capital gains should be reported on his income tax.
How do I report this on my and my son's returns in TurboTax? Can someone help me out here?
I did find this information below from www.ldic.ca/resources/itfs-explained/ which makes sense, however, I don't know how to report it in TurboTax.
I would recommend contacting the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or someone knowledgeable in In-Trust-For Accounts to see how the transfer to your son should be handled. Then we can assist you on how to enter things in the right places in the software.
If you are in Canada or the United States, you can call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281. If you are elsewhere, you can call 613-940-8495. This page has more ways to contact the CRA: Contact the Canada Revenue Agency
