I have filed taxes online the previous year with no issues. But this time I keep getting Error code 53 from CRA, even though I'm filing within the hours stated on the website.

Could you please clear your cache and restart your computer? If there is still an error code try using a different browser and let us know if you were able to Netfile. We will look into this while you do that and update you if we found anything.
