Filing 2 tax returns - one with refund and other owes
I have completed returns for myself and my spouse with income sharing. Now I get a refund but why partner owes, but the net result is a nice small refund.
How do we file so there is only one financial transaction, the small refund? There should be no need for my spouse to send money while I am getting a refund.
thanks

Unlike in some other countries, Canada doesn't have joint filing for spouses/partners. So, you will get your own refund or balance owing even if you are married. You can’t apply the refund for one spouse to the taxes owing of the other.

Hmm, when our accountant did it last year we only got our refund, no need for any payment. I don’t understand why he could do it but this s/w can’t.

Your accountant must have taken care of the amount due for you as in Canada it is not possible to pay the amount due with someone else's refund as per our TurboTax article: Can I transfer my refund to my spouse to pay their balance due?
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
