Thanks! I was able to get past the activation code but I can't open my tax files for that year as I guess the software had multiple updates before I filed my return so I need to apply the updates first. If I say Check for Updates, it says I need to update but if I tell it to update, nothing happens. Presumably because any older downloads have been removed. So how am I supposed to view prior years tax files now? = (
Did you use the CD to reinstall? If so, try using the download as it's the final version with all the updates added: https://intuitglobal.intuit.com/downloads/CanadaTax/2016/dls/TurboTax2016_Bld8004_May18.exe
If that doesn't work, you can get copies of your past years tax returns (going back 11 years) by logging into your CRA My Account. If you're not able to use My Account, you can contact the CRA directly to get a copy of your past year's return. If you are in Canada or the United States, you can call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281. You can make adjustments using the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) My Account service or you can print & mail a T1-ADJ T1 Adjustment Request.
