Can I claim expenses I incurred as a result of the BC forest fires. I had to go from place to place while being evacuated, pay for hotels, meals & campground fees.

Can I claim expenses I incurred as a result of the BC forest fires. I had to go from place to place while being evacuated, pay for hotels, meals & campground fees.

Unfortunately, none of the expenses incurred by the evacuees are eligible for any deductions or credits on your income tax return. 

As a rule, you need a "taxable income" to apply deductions against, and any financial aid or relief received by the Red Cross, ESS, the Federal or Provincial Govt, was not taxable.
