You have to "claim" your moving expenses in the year they were incurred and carry them forward if you do not have any eligible income to apply them against. If you did not enter them on your 2016 return, you should do a T1 Adjustment to add them.
You may want to contact CRA (General Enquiries 1-800-959-8281) and ask if it is a possibility to make the claim on your 2017 return.
