How do I claim "Transfer under Subparagraph 60(L)" receipt?

I received a T4RIF for RRIF funds transferred from my spouse who died in September 2025. I also received a "Transfer under Subparagraph 60(L)" receipt for the same amount. How do I claim this transfer receipt?

How do I claim "Transfer under Subparagraph 60(L)" receipt?

Please follow the steps below.

First, you must report the income as shown on the slip issued in your name.

Box 16 (Taxable Amount): Enter the amount here. This will flow to Line 11500 (Other Pensions) of your return.

If your slip has an amount in Box 24, enter it. This tells the software that this amount is eligible for a transfer.

"Received due to death of spouse?": Most versions of TurboTax will have a checkbox or a dropdown below the boxes. Check this box. This ensures the income is eligible for the $2,000 Pension Income Amount (if you are 65+) and allows the software to recognize it as a "Designated Benefit.

This is where people often get stuck. The 60(l) receipt acts like an RRSP contribution, but it does not use up your RRSP contribution room.

In the "RRSP Contributions" Section:

Enter the receipt as if it were a normal RRSP contribution.

Enter the description exactly as it appears on the receipt (e.g., "Direct Transfer under 60(l)").

The Critical Step: Look for a field or checkbox that says "Designated Transfer," "Amount is a 60(l) transfer," or "Transfer of a refund of premiums." * By marking it as a "Transfer," TurboTax will move the deduction from the standard RRSP line (20800) to the specific transfer line (Line 23200 or Schedule 7) so it doesn't impact your normal contribution limit.

Once both are entered, check your Detailed Tax Summary or Forms Mode:

Line 11500: Should show the amount from the T4RIF (Income).

Line 23200 (or Line 20800 if you're under 71): Should show the matching deduction.

Result: The net impact on your taxable income should be $0.

If you are over age 71, you cannot "contribute" to an RRSP. You must ensure the 60(l) receipt is entered specifically in the "Other Deductions" section for Line 23200. TurboTax usually handles this automatically if you enter the receipt in the RRSP section and mark it as a "60(l) transfer to an RRIF."

Here's some additional information for you to navigate through to the right place for RRSP contribution deductions.
