I mistakenly indicated that I had some deductions for 2023, so I upgraded my profile to include the necessary forms. However, I later realized that these deductions are for 2024, and I have since updated my responses. I am preparing to file my tax return, and it appears that I owe $42. I am looking for guidance on how I might avoid this payment.

Unfortunately, you can't downgrade a return. If you don't want to pay the fee for the upgrade, then you will have to start a new return.
