I'm an AB resident, and was offered a job in QC. The understanding was that I would pay for my own travel to and from QC, and pay my own rent while there. Do the rules about claiming moving expenses apply to me if I didn't move there permanently? ie. I kept my AB driver's license and only rented a temporary dwelling for ~4 months, but can I claim my airfare as moving expenses?
If I can claim these expenses, I assume that the Per Diems payed by my employer would have to be deducted from my claim amount?
Thanks.
Yes, you can claim your moving expenses, as long as you actually lived in Quebec (“ordinarily resided”). You can claim the airfare, and you would have to subtract any amounts that your employer paid/reimbursed you for.
