If your oilfield employer pays LOA and you have to live out of town while working, am I able to claim meals and lodging as a work expense?

You can only claim expenses if your living out allowance didn’t cover the actual cost. You must have a signed T2200/T2200s and can prove your expenses were significantly more than the allowance. If you do claim these expenses on your return, you must also include the allowance you were given in your income.
