My wife was required to travel to training for a new job (hourly-paid employee). She had expenses (baggage and meals) that were not reimbursed. Can she claim these?

Follow-up to the answer... the info given specifies 'salaried or commission' employees, which my wife is neither (she is an hourly-paid employee).  Does the answer still apply?

Your wife can claim these expenses as employment expenses as long as she received a T2200 (Statement of Declaration of Employment) stating that she was required to have these expenses as a condition of her employment.  Otherwise, she would not be able to claim these expenses on her income tax return.  Please see the following FAQ for more information on claiming employment expenses.
