why is Intuit ripping me off? In previous years I was able to file using TurboTax Basic - now I have to buy access to the self-employed version for online filing?

If you are using TurboTax Do It Yourself (Online), then you'll need to use the Self-Employed version to report Self-Employment income.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, we recommend using TurboTax Desktop Home & Business for Self-Employment income as it provides more guidance, but you can still use TurboTax Desktop Basic.
