I’m sorry to hear of your loss.

If you have income or something else for your wife that pertains to the time between January 1 2016, up to and including the date of death, then this should go on her 2016 T1 return. If you have already filed her return for that year and need to make changes, you can do so through the CRA: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/2647992

Income earned after the date of death needs to be reported on a T3 Trust Income Tax and Information Return. Unfortunately, TurboTax can’t be used to prepare a T3 return. However, Intuit offers another product called Profile that can: http://profile.intuit.ca/professional-tax-software/profile-onepay.jsp

You should confirm with the CRA what needs to be done. https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/2647704

I was not asking about T1 or T3. I was asking about the software itself. It keeps asking me the date of *h. After I put the date of 2016. The software tells me that the date of 2016 is not allowed.

Are you preparing a return for yourself for the current tax year (i.e. 2017)?

Yes.

If your spouse passed away in 2016, there should be no need to enter her date of death in your return.

When you start a new return, TurboTax first asks for your marital status. When you enter widowed, TurboTax will then ask you if your spouse passed away during the tax year. Only if you answer 'Yes' is the date of death needed, so TurboTax can prorate your benefits. If the spouse passed away prior to the tax year, no date of death is needed because no proration is needed.

I did that correctly. But TurboTax keeps asking me. That is the problem! Is it a bug? imported from last year.

Did you enter your marital status as windowed in your return last year?
