Does the tax calculation take the splitting into account in spite of showing my income not reduced but my wife's increased?

Does total income get reduced by the amount split with a spouse?

For pension splitting, you can view the entries relating to the split on line 210 of the pensioner's return and line 116 of the spouse's return. These figures will match.

The pensioner's total income on line 150 is not affected by the splitting but their net income (line 236) reflects the deduction.
