Was there a resolution to this question?

I am still unable to submit due to the error code for this exact problem

Please double check what you have entered on the T1198 form.

Line 68518 Total amount (principal and interest) must be the same amount as Line 68519 - Total principal (current and prior years) PLUS Total interest (current and prior years)

Also, Line 68519 - Total principal (current and prior years) must be the same as the total amount of total of boxes 68520 through 68560 added together.

You can see lines 10100, 10400, 12799, 12800 and 13000 on your detailed tax summary.

I am having this same issue. On T1198, line 68519 is the same as line 68518. However, line 68519 is, in fact, greater than the sum of lines 10100, 10400, 12799, 12800 and 13000 because there is no income reported on these lines for the return that I am doing. The only income reported on T1 General is found on lines 11400 and 11500. This software error is preventing me from submitting the tax return electronically which means CRA will not be able to do their manual calculation. Will this error be fixed soon?

@skelly73 Did you already enter in the T4 or T4A for the payment that was received?

Yes, all income was entered into the tax program. The only income received in 2024 was from CPP disability (T4AP) and a pension (T4A). Neither one of these lines are included in the calculation for income to compare against the qualified lump sum

payment form. This is what is triggering the error message because the amount on the qualified lump sum is greater than the sum of certain lines on the T1 General. This is preventing me from submitting the tax return electronically.

@skelly73

A T4 and/or T4A for the lump sum needs to be entered on to the return. The T1198 is just a request to take the income from the T4 and/or T4A and use a special tax calculation to tax the retroactive amounts in the way they would have been taxed if you had gotten them in the right year.

Was the T4A that you entered for the lump sum payment, if so, please double check that you've entered the amounts in the correct boxes. If you didn't get a slip for the lump sum, check on CRA's MyAccount to see if there's something there, or contact whoever is issuing the payment to get a copy.

Yes it was entered. It was entered on the T4A(P) line for Canada Pension Disability. This person was approved for the Canada Pension Disability in Aug 2023. It was determined that she was eligible for the Disability Tax Credit back to 2021. This person had been receiving a monthly disability payment from Canada Life since 2021. Since this person now qualified for CPP disability, in January 2024, instead of Service Canada providing a back pay amount to this person who would then have to pay back Canada Life,  Service Canada paid back the money to Canada Life in a lump sum on behalf of this person. This amount is captured on a T4A(P) slip which unfortunately makes it seem like the person made 3 times more money than they actually do. This person received a letter from Service Canada detailing the break down of the lump sum money over 3 years: 2021,2022 and 2023. Since the lump sum was reported in Jan 2024, the person has to file it as part of their 2024 taxes but since they do not work, there is no other income to report and this causes as bug to pop up in the Turbo tax and the income reported on lines 10100, 10400, 12799, 12800 and 13000 add to $0 for this person which is less than the amount on line 68519 on form T1198. However if the sum of the lines on T1 General also included T4A(P), then this error could have been averted and I could have electronically submitted the tax file. The income reported for the person is correct but the calculation for the lines listed above do not include the lines that this person had income reported. Can this be fixed ?
