Hello - in 2022 I travelled overseas to get fairly significant dental work done as the domestic costs were simply outrageous.
As I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I can claim those direct costs as regular medical expenses, but what about things such as airfare, lodging, transportation, and food expenses.
I've read the CRA documents on eligible medical expenses, but they aren't clear or definitive in what they advise, and finding case law or precedents is sketchy at best.
I live in a very rural part of the country with no specialized dental services closer than at least 50km away and the specialists I would have contracted for the work, if affordable, were 170km away or more.
Under the above circumstances, which, if any of the other expenses (airfare and lodgings being the most significant) would be eligible to result in a successful claim?
Thanks in advance,
Bert
