How should I feel the section Income from Canadian and Foreign Sources?

I immigrated to Canada in 2024 as a student and while I was in my home country I received non-taxable income. I filled out this section with my entry date, left the exit date blank, filled in 0 for my income from Canadian sources, and then filled in my income that I received while I was in my home country. I did this for myself and my spouse. However, when I try to file my tax return, it comes back with errors saying that this section was filled out incorrectly. Do you have any idea on how should I fill these fields? Thank you in advance.

What is the exact error message that you are getting?

Are you using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online? What year are you doing taxes for?

How should I feel the section Income from Canadian and Foreign Sources?

I am filling my taxes for 2024 with TurboTax online and currently having these two warmings that applies to me:

  • You have indicated a date of entry into or departure from Canada. You must also enter your income from Canadian and foreign sources for the part of the year you were not a resident of Canada.
  • Since your marital status has changed, your benefit and credit payments may be impacted if you did not previously inform the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The CRA will send you a redetermination notice if a recalculation determines that you were paid too much or too little.

As I said, I think I filled correctly my foreing income sections. And I was married in my home country in 2024, so I do not know if I was suposed to inform the CRA about that.
