Issue with who claims charitable donations
Hi, I use TurboTax for my husband and I. I entered all of our charitable returns and selected for my husband to claim them. I submitted my return from TurboTax using Netfile but not my husband's becuase our accountant completes and files his using a different tax software. She correctly claimed the donations on his return.
However, I just received a re-assessment from CRA asking me to submit the receipts. I went back to the PDF of my return from TurboTax an see that the donations are showing up for me even thought his name is still checked to claim him in the software.
Is this a bug? I have not selected to install the latest updates yet. Maybe it's been fixed in the lastest updates?
Thanks.

If the donations are being claimed on your return they will show up on line 34900 of your return in Forms mode, or in your column when you go to the detailed tax summary in EasyStep mode. You'll also have a schedule 9 on your return.
If the donations are on your return and you need to switch them to your husband's return, in Forms mode select Tools>Optimizers>Charitable Donations Optimizer, and then select you husband at the top, then click close. In EasyStep mode, use the Find tool to search for 'don' and then select the Charitable Donations Optimizer from the list and click Go. Then click Continue and then select you husband at the top, then click close.
Then once you have moved the donations over to your spouse, then you can ReFile your return.

Yes, it is possible that there was an issue that was fixed by an update. We recommend checking for updates and applying them every time you open TurboTax Desktop.
Since you used NETFILE to file your return, you can also use it to ReFile your return once you’ve removed the donations. To do so, just open TurboTax Desktop edition and in Return Manager, select ReFILE beside the filed tax return you want to adjust.

Issue with who claims charitable donations
Hi again. I have updated Turbo Tax, double checked that my husband is claiming the donations and then saved the return. Next I printed my return to a PDF and the donations are still showing on my return.
Thanks.

Are the donations showing up on your T1 on line 34900? Are you preparing your return for 2023? Did you use the Charitable Donation Optimizer?

Issue with who claims charitable donations
Hi Susan, the returns are from 2023. I enter our data manually using File/Import tax data from CRA from the top naviation bar. Then I use the T-Slips tab at the bottom of the window to manually input the donations. At the top of the Donations window, I can select to assign the donations to my husband or me. He is selected.
Hope that helps. I can send screen shots if needed.
