Can I claim tinted windows as a business expense?

I am self employed and use my vehicle for business use and personal use.

I would like to get my car windows tinted as I transport a lot of goods and packages with my car. I think having tinted windows would be more secure against possible theft and would improve security for the goods I transport, as well as customers personal information.

Would CRA accept this reasoning as a legitimate business expense? And if so, can I claim 100% cost or just the same percentage of business/personal use as the rest of my automotive expenses?

Window tinting of your vehicle is likely not an eligible Motor Vehicle Expense in the eyes of the Canada Revenue Agency. Generally, any mandatory car expense that you incur enabling your vehicle to be on the road, is usually deductible.

For example, you'll need fuel to drive, an oil change to keep the car going and new windshield wipers to see through the rain.  But you don't need tinted windows or brand-new expensive rims on your tires to get from point A to point B (unless you can justify it).
