Separated from Common law partner in 2024. Filing 2024 taxes, didn’t import 2023 info. Why is TurboTax asking for ex-partner’s details? How to skip?

I separated from my common-law partner May 2024, and I’m now filing my 2024 tax return. I purposefully did not import information from my 2023 tax return to avoid including my ex-partner’s details. I put my status as single as this status change was changed in our CRA accounts also. However, TurboTax is still asking me to enter his information (e.g., SIN, income, etc.) in the 2024 questionnaire. Since we separated in 2024, do I need to provide his information? If not, how do I skip or remove these questions? I want to ensure my return reflects my current status as separated and doesn’t include his details unnecessarily. Any guidance on how to navigate this would be greatly appreciated!

1. When to File as "Separated":

• If you've been living separate and apart from your spouse or common-law partner for at least 90 consecutive days due to a breakdown of the relationship, you are considered separated for tax purposes. 
• The effective date of your separated status is the day you started living apart. 
• If the separation occurs after filing your tax return, and you continue to live apart for at least 90 days, you must notify the CRA of your changed marital status. 

2. How to Notify the CRA:

• You can notify the CRA of your separation by:
  • Updating your marital status through "My Account" on the CRA website.
  • Calling CRA's toll-free phone number at [phone number removed].
  • Completing and sending in Form RC65, Marital Status Change. 

3. Important Considerations:

• 90-Day Rule:

  The 90-day period must be consecutive and end by December 31st of the taxation year to file as "separated" in that year.

If you separated or divorced during the current tax year, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will still require your ex-partner’s information. The info is needed for several reasons, like eligibility for certain credits or deductions, handling property you still own together, etc…
