I fail to see how this problem can be CRA's fault. In my opinion the source of the confusion (problem) lies in the fact that the Easy Step T3 entry section has two Box 52's both labeled differently (same with Box 53) i.e. Foreign Capital Gains and Total Capital gains. The forms entry T3 input has only one Box 52 and one Box 53, both of which are for Total Capital Gains since Box 21 does not differentiate between Total and Foreign. The problem is the fact that only one Box 52 communicates with the T3 entry into the tax preparation. The same with Box 53. If you use Easy Step then you have to use the second Box 52 and Box 53 (as Wes1 points out). Surely this is a problem in the software.
My T3 has an entry in Box 21 but nothing for Boxes 52 or 53. I kept getting an error message that Boxes 52 and 53 needed to be entered even though my T3 does not show these boxes. I finally entered the same amount in Box 53 from Box 21 and my Turbo Tax error message disappeared. I was able to Net File with no issues.
Hope this helps someone else.
@jacqjacqjojo61 This is not a TurboTax issue. The CRA has confirmed that this issue is affecting all CRA-certified tax software. TurboTax is in direct contact with senior Government of Canada officials at CRA, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and decisive action to resolve these issues for our customers and all Canadians.
To support taxpayers in navigating these CRA errors, the TurboTax Canada blog is being regularly updated with the latest information on NETFILE error codes, CRA-approved workarounds, and expected resolution dates.
As soon as the issue is resolved, we'll post an update in this thread.
Thank you for your patience and choosing TurboTax.
Can turbotax not provide a fix to copy the numbers from the T3 over to Line 68140? on the T936 form.
How is this a CRA issue if you guys aren't copying a simple number over. When we double click into line 68140 it goes directly to the T3. Why can't you just copy the number over?
it worked every prior year.
@rgrabo65 For all T3 slips in your return: - Remove the amount from Box 52, if applicable (leave it blank) - Enter the sum of Box 52 + Box 53 in Box 53 - Ensure Box 53 equals the amount in Box 21 If the error persists, try rounding the box amounts (21 and 53) to the nearest dollar and submit via NETFILE once more.
A new update was released today, so make sure the software is up to date.
I downloaded the latest update.
It does NOT work.
My wife has a net loss. There is a number in the T3 that DOES NOT get copied over to the T936 form.
Line 68140 is empty.
Current Build is Version 00.01.72 Build 7005 068G26
Turbotax says this is the latest built
However the software DOES NOT Copy the values from the T3 to line 68140.
When I double click the 0.00 value in line 68140 it brings up my T3.
same. I've been saying this for weeks. How hard is it for the software engineers to add one line of code that says line 68140 = box 21.
I have tried that solution, by deleting box 52, and putting the total amount in box 53 so it equals box 21. I have also tried rounding up to the nearest dollar. The same error persists. The problem is the total capital gains (Box 21) is not copying to line 68140. Please forward this on to the software engineers.
I just did my wife's return using Studio Tax....and it populates the boxes properly on form T936.
So ...this is a Turbo Tax issue.
Since I have to pay $18 to Studio Tax, I would like a full refund from Turbo Tax.
