The CRA is going to be really happy, when thousands of people mail in paper returns and they have to key it all in!
Makes you wonder why we purchased software
Who knows. Hopefully they fix it (and soon).
You are so right.
For the error on the T3 slip not balancing box 52+53 to equal box 21A, trying to enter the sum of 52+53 into box 53 (deleting 52) should fix the problem.
Phone the help line and put pressure on TurboTax. The service agent immediately knew what error I was having when I mentioned the T3. I was told it is an error with their system that was can only be fixed on their end and was originally reported in FEBRUARY! My "case" was tagged to the incident report INV32728. Once the issue is resolved I was told I would be sent an email to them be able to file. Ridiculous the amount of people with this issue....
Dont want to skip entering box 53 as CRA may then identify that you haven't entered the proper amounts in all boxes
I’ve also called the TT customer service line twice. The first time, the agent had no idea what I was talking about, put me on hold to speak with the technical department, and then returned to say they were working on a fix. When I called again yesterday, the agent immediately understood the issue. After consultation, they informed me that the fix would happen on March 25 and that I would receive an email. However, today is March 25, and I’ve yet to receive anything. This is completely unacceptable—the fix should have been implemented immediately after the CRA’s January 31 announcement. I agree—we need to keep calling and pressuring them to ensure this gets resolved.
Oddly enough being a resident of Quebec, TT does take into account the 50% split between spouses for capital gains. But as you stated, not in the CRA return. Clearly a bug that can be resolved very easily by TurboTax. TT had it right for so many years so revert back to the logic used in the past. I guess it is easier said than done...
I have imported all of my T3 from the CRA directly and it has populated Box 21 Capital Gains. It has NOT populated either box 52 or box 53.
I have followed the instructions provided by others here to get around the TT error, but I see in TT there are 2 boxes for Box 52 (Foreign Capital Gains vs. Total Capital Gains) and 2 boxes for Box 53 (Foreign Capital Gains vs. Total Capital Gains). I assume since the CRA populated Box 21 Capital Gains, I should populate either Box 52 Capital Gains OR Box 53 Capital Gains and not do anything with the Foreign Capital Gains boxes?
