Unused Net Capital Losses from other Years

Hello,

My notice of assessment states that I have net capital losses on investments from other years.  However, I no longer know in what year(s) they were incurred and the notice does not provide that information.  I would like to add the loss to my 2021 taxes.  Also, where exactly do I input the loss on the forms?

Thank you.

Mario

You can access information on your net capital losses from previous years on your CRA My Account. On your CRA My Account, you can access any loss balances and view a record of losses applied in previous years.

To enter the losses on TurboTax online:

  1. Login and open your TurboTax return. Click the "Find" icon at the top of the screen.
  2. In the search bar, type "Losses" and press Go.
  3. On Your Losses Profile for 2021 page, select Net Capital Loss Carry Forward and press Continue.
  4. Here is where you will enter the losses for each year that you are carrying forward. (This information is available on your CRA My Account.) Press Continue once you have entered the information.
  5. Enter the amount you are claiming in 2021 in the box provided. Press Continue to save your work.
