Open TurboTax
Hello! I’m filing my taxes with TurboTax and ran into an issue with one of my slips.
In 2025 I worked for a few weeks as a warehouse clerk. At the beginning of February I received a T4 and an RL-1 from my employer, which I entered normally in TurboTax without any issues.
A few weeks later, the employer sent me another slip. It is only an RL-1 with Box O marked RD (amount about $250). So now I have 1 T4 and 2 RL-1 slips.
In the email they said this income should be reported as T4A, but the file they sent actually only contains an RL-1.
My problems in TurboTax:
I don’t see an option to add an RL-1 without a corresponding T4.
If I use Auto-fill from CRA, TurboTax imports this slip as T4A Box 48.
Then TurboTax asks for the source of Box 48, and no matter what I choose it treats it as self-employment income and asks me to upgrade to the self-employed version.
However, I was not self-employed — I just worked a few weeks at a warehouse.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation with an RL-1 Box O (code RD)?
How should this slip be entered in TurboTax so that it is reported correctly without triggering the self-employment upgrade?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
The CRA considers box 48 of the T4A slip to be self-employment, and RL-1 Box O (code RD) is also for self-employed income. You'll need to report the income as self-employment/business income. You only need to answer basic information, such as business name and address (can be your own), industry code, and fiscal period (Jan 01 to December 31).
In TurboTax, select Tax Profile > Your Tax Profile and make sure that T4A/Relevé 2/Relevé 1 is checked off. Then you should be able to add the Relevé 1 on the T4A page.
