This is still an issue. I did my daughters taxes and in her return (done in turbo tax online) Schedule 11, line 24 - federal tuition amount transferred is $3,595.
When I do my taxes, the maximum I am able to transfer is $1,301.
@markgillis How much taxes do you owe? Your child might be able to transfer more, but since the transfer is non-refundable, you would only be able to use the amount needed to reduce your taxes owing to zero.
I got around the issue by putting an amount in the 2023 carry over box (as someone above suggested), so it was not a limit based on how much tax I paid last year.
I am having this exact same issue. Can you help me solve this. Even tried calling TurboTax and they can't seem to figure it out either. I am about ready to pack in using Turbo Tax for good and take my stuff to H&R block.
When entering the transfer amount and it gives you the error, put $0 in that box and then in the 2023 carry over box, put the tuition transfer amount. I looked through all the forms that are submitted and turbotax does not report the current year transfer amount vs the 2023 carry forward amount separately. They get combined and reported on a single line. So the work around works and does not create issues with false reporting to the CRA.
Hello,
I never resolved this matter with TurboTax last year. I spoke to a # of people - and I often knew more about what I could claim and not claim and how to do so than they did. Their customer service, in my opinion, was terrible. I left TT and used another program with no problem.
@lonerock22 Thanks for feedback, we will pass it on to the assigned department.
