The number you see in the top left-hand corner shows the amount that you will owe or get as a refund. I believe it is in red if you owe, and is green if you are to receive a refund. As you enter new information, this number will change. If you have a spouse/common-law partner and are completing his/her return at the same time as yours, this number will be a combination result of the two returns together. If this is the case, you should see a small arrow on the right-hand side of this number. When clicked, it will open a drop-down list and show each person's individual balance owing or refund.
