Hello, I just moved to Quebec, Canada last August.
Would I be able to claim medical expenses incurred for me and my spouse back in my home country for the year 2023?
I am also paying for my dad's nursing home monthly but this is back in my home country, not Canada.
Will I be able to claim these medical expenses for my dad as a dependant?
Also, my dad has zero income.
Hope to get some help soon. First time filing tax return here.
Thank you in advance.
You can't claim medical expenses for the part of the year that you were not resident of Canada.
As for whether you can claim your dad's nursing home expenses, you can contact the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and confirm it with them.
If you are in Canada or the United States, you can call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281. If you are elsewhere, you can call 613-940-8495. This page has more ways to contact the CRA: Contact the Canada Revenue Agency
