Hello and thanks for the help in advance.
Our taxes are ready to file but we have one problem.
I did my wife's taxes separately than mine because she earns income from self employment and my income is from Workman's comp. If I do our taxes jointly, Turbo tax charges us each $50. When I do mine separately, I am not charged. She gets charged the $50.
On the tax summaries, it shows that we are both getting a GST credit for the same amount and I know that is not going to happen. Only one credit is issued.
If anyone knows where and how to choose who the recipient is, please let me know.
Thank you!
As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA): Only one of you can get the credit for both of you. The credit will be paid to the spouse or common-law partner whose tax return is assessed first. No matter which one of you receives the credit, the amount will be the same.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Ok Great. Thank you for the reply.
I find it really strange that is what decides who receives the credit. 1st filed instead of having a way to actually designate a recipient.
Thanks again.
