Good news! Because April 30th falls on a weekend this year, you have until Monday, May 2, 2022 to file your tax return! Also, if you or your spouse has self-employment income, you don’t have to file your return until Jun 15, 2022 (though you still have to have to pay any taxes owing by May 2nd). This Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has more information about due dates: Due dates and payment dates

TurboTax uses NETFILE, which is a service provided by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that let individual taxpayers file their returns online. E-FILE is only used by tax professionals. NETFILE for 2021 will be available for several years, so you will still be able to file your return online long after the due date. This TurboTax FAQ has more information on NETFILE vs EFILE: What is the difference between NETFILE and EFILE?

If you don’t submit your tax return on time, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will charge interest on any amounts that you owe, as well as a late-filing penalty. Also, filing late may cause delays to any benefit or credit payments that you may receive, such as the Canada child benefit (CCB) or the GST/HST credit.
