why is there a fee to netfile this year? $60? After paying $45 for the program.

NETFILE is a service provided by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and it is free. The fee you pay for TurboTax is to use the software. If you are using TurboTax Do It Yourself (Online), the fee is based on what you enter on your return. So if you have self-employment or rental income, then you need to use Do It Yourself Self-Employed ($60 + tax). 

If you bought a multi-return licence, such as TurboTax Deluxe, you should go to turbotax.ca/activate to use your code before you start your returns. However, if you didn't activate the product before hand, you can enter your code in the Coupon Code box on the payment page. Then your fee will be reduced by the cost of one Deluxe return, and you will only have to pay the difference between Deluxe &  Self-Employed.
