Open TurboTax
Hello,
I filed taxes for my spouse and myself recently. Based on my needs I used Turbotax Premium. However, my spouse has no earnings so would not need a premium product. However, when I was checking out, the system did not seem to discern that one requires premium and the other doesn't.
Is this expected?
Are there any recourse to paying for two different products while preparing taxes for couples?
If you are preparing your returns together, then you are both using the same version of TurboTax, so you will both be charged the same price.

Am I to understand that we are encouraged to file taxes together (the steps in your software recommends so), but at the same time forced to use (and charged) the same products when our financial circumstances differ?
If that is the case, this is an issue that the product needs to resolve.
