Thank you for clarity that one box 21 was for foreign and the other was for Canadian capital gains.
Today I noticed on page 1 of the T3 input screen, the first box 21 is for Canadian and the second box 21 directly below it is for foreign. On page 2 of the T3 input screen, this is reversed (i.e. the first box 52 and 53 is for foreign and the second for Canadian). I naturally assumed that the order would be the same as on page 1. It is not. After correcting my input entry the taxable capital gains amount is flowing to Sched 3 etc...
Hoping to be able to submit without any errors to bypass.
I checked my TurboTax software for 2022 and 2023. Neither year had Boxes 52 or 53. Both had Box 21 for Capital Gains. Our T3 slips only have Box 21. We never had Box 52 or 53 on the slip. I appreciate that the Federal Government was going to increase the capital gains tax last June, which explains why TurboTax added boxes 52 and 53. I have a value in Box 53 equal to the value in Box 21, as per the "workaround" provided in the link from TurboTax's email on April 11th. I don't understand why it is taking weeks and weeks to sort this out. Why can't an update be made to read BOX 21 and ignore BOX 52 and BOX 53? They are now redundant. CRA may have some responsibility here, but TurboTax is fumbling along and not addressing our issues adequately. I will continue to push for compensation. A human being needs to respond to these legitimate concerns. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, TurboTax. Every hour this continues, only makes it worse.
I am receiving the same errors as others in this thread. When will we be able to file???
The CRA has announced systems tax calculator errors that may affect your ability to file. These errors are affecting all CRA certified tax software across Canada.
TurboTax is in direct contact with senior Government of Canada officials at CRA, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and decisive action to resolve these issues for our customers and all Canadians.
If you see one of these error codes, please visit What does my NETFILE error code mean and how do I fix it? .
@john71 This is not a TurboTax issue. The CRA has confirmed that this issue is affecting all CRA-certified tax software. To support taxpayers in navigating these CRA errors, the TurboTax Canada blog is being regularly updated with the latest information on NETFILE error codes, CRA-approved workarounds, and expected resolution dates.
As soon as the issue is resolved, we'll post an update in this thread.
Thank you for your patience and choosing TurboTax.
Aniqua... your repeated statement of "To support taxpayers in navigating these CRA errors, the TurboTax Canada blog is being regularly updated" is garbage. It has NOT been updated since Apr 4th. Help us. Quit posting the same useless statements over and over again. I'm angry. So are many others.
@TurboTaxAniqua - I understand that there might also be a problem at the CRA. However, after trying multiple methods of inputting my data, I finally just zeroed out ALL my T3 slips. I left no numbers anywhere in any T3. I then tried to netfile and got the same error as always:
You have entered an amount of foreign capital gains included in Box 21 on a T3 slip but have not entered the total capital gains i...
This represents an error in TT since there should not be any T3 error if all the boxes are zero!!!
If I could get past the TT error, then I could try to netfile, but your software will not even allow me to try. It is as if the input error I made at first, about 10 attempts ago, has been memorized by TT and it insists that I have the T3 error even though I no longer have any data in any of the T3 boxes.
Please address all the people on this forum that are having this TT problem and can't even get to the CRA problem.
UPDATE
I made a mistake when I zeroed the I thought I zeroed out all my T3 entries. I missed a box 34 "Foreign tax on cap. gains (incl in box 34)" on one of the slips. It does not show on the screen at all unless you actually click on the box to see the 3 entries. When I fixed that box on my real submission, it passed the TT error message and I was then able to netfile OK. Beware that the TOTAL column in the T3 Federal slip entry screen does not show some of the input values.
My apologies to those who read this and got misled.

The date seems to move quite regularly. I checked today with a couple of friends who use accountants or third party providers and have capital gains. No issues reported.
I'm getting seriously concerned, I owe, at least according to the present version of Turbo Tax, not sure anymore if I trust that figure given this issue and the reports of a glitch causing people to pay taxes owing for child care expense in previous years.
I have to apologize to @TurboTaxAniqua . I thought I zeroed out all my T3 entries, but I missed a box 34 Foreign tax paid on one of the slips. It does not show on the screen at all unless you actually click on the box. When I fixed that box on my real submission, it netfiled OK.
To EVERYONE, please ignore my message about zeroing out all T3 boxes still causes the error to remain.
With apologies, John 71
A suggestion on a future version of TT. How about getting the error message to tell us which T3 is at fault instead of just saying one of your T3s has a Box 21,52,53,34 error. That is a lot of territory for some of us.
@john71 Thank you for the update, John. Really appreciate you circling back and sharing it with usāit'll definitely help others too. Your feedback is noted.
