Hello there, I am filing my income tax separately from my spouse and we both are on social assistance. Therefore, cannot afford to pay any fees as free tax clinic is close due to the coronavirus. I would like to understand this question: I entered my social assistance payment on line 145 (t5007 slip). I entered my spouse information as requested. However, at the income summary, income reports as zero. Which is not right. Because line 145 should automatically be transferred to line 250 for deductions. I TRIED playing around with it by filing as a single person, then my income summary shows my balance? I am super confused. why does it show the amount when I file as a single person, but not when I change my status to married? your help is appreciated.
Shows zero balance*********
When on social assistance- there is no refund- unless you qualify for the Climate Action Incentive, depending on which province you are in. The government will calculate your GST/HST automatically and you will find out if you qualify in June.
I would recommend you use our TurboTax Free Online version- so that you can simply follow step by step questions and answers and you will be done and can file your return. You can then complete your returns together- but in the end you will file them separately.
Here is the link in which you will need to go to create an Online Account- https://ww2.2019.turbotaxonline.intuit.ca/?_swlg=en
Then once you log into your new Online Account- make sure you choose TurboTax FREE - this won't cost you anything and you will find it easy to navigate.
