When you import your data from your previous year's TurboTax Desktop return, it will use whatever data is there to start your current year's return. But, if you use Auto-Fill, then data will be imported from the CRA, which can include things from the previous year (carry-forwards, UCC, etc...).
We'll pass on your suggestion to our product development team. Thank you for your input.
You won't be able to reflect the change that you have made for Tax Year 2022 for Refiling to reflect on your Tax Year 2024. You can only import the last year return to the current year and if that information is correct then it will reflect on the current year Tax return (2024).
Thanks for choosing TurboTax.
Thank you. Follow up question - Please confirm: the only time the previous year's data is imported into this years tax return is at the beginning step of "Open an Existing Return"?
Looking at Easy Step what is included in "Data Transferred from Last Year" only shows Name, contact info, SIN, and RRSP contribution room. Yet, in DSUM, the detailed summary, I can select the previous year in the second column and all of last year's tax data is there. I believe there is a discrepancy here. Please check.
Because I still have many years of TurboTax, on my computer, I recommend that TurboTax coding be changed so that corrections/changes can be made to previous year's returns and that these corrections are carried forward to the next year's return. I would contend that people receive a NOA for even two or more years ago where there are some differences from what was submitted and it would be useful to fix previous returns for the calculation of items such cumulative losses, CNIL, etc.

Thank you for your reply.
I avoid autofill from CRA because TurboTax is unable to handle a large list of 5008 transactions. My managed investment has many buy and sells over the year and Standard Turbotax cannot import them all. And it is a tedious process to delete everyone of the incomplete imported 5008 entries in order to enter a consolidated gains/losses entry.
Maybe Turbotax has fixed this, it was a few years ago.
@dickaur Your feedback is important to us and we will pass it on to the assigned department.
Please clarify on one point, If I import data from last year's return to start my new return AND I use autofill from CRA, does the CRA data overwrite the imported data when there is a duplication of data?
Perhaps you could let us know specifically what data is brought over from CRA in addition to what we receive as tax slips.
Thank you for being so helpful
What is transferred from last year will not be anything that is transferred from the CRA. In fact, if you choose to use AFR and download your tax slips, and then before you file in review, you can go back and use AFR once again to make sure that you didn't miss any slips, it will not transfer the same slips that you had entered previously. However, if there were any slips missing, those would then be entered.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
