Medical Expense Optimizer

I entered all of last year's and this year's medical receipts into TT2021.  The Medical Expense Optimizer shows  maximum refund for 27/08/2020-27/08/2021.   However, the total for the two years seems to be fully claimed on line 33099.  If I enter the dates indicated on the medical expense worksheet, the medical expense claim amount drops below the 3% amount (Line 107) needed to make a claim.   If I enter the calendar 2021 year, the medical expense claim is greater than Line 107 and I get a reduction in tax owed.

Is this a glitch with the M.E. Optimizer or am I doing somethin wrong?  I would have expected that when the Opitmizer provided a date range and one selected opitimize and then close, the relevent dates and medical amounts would be filled in automatically.  However, it appears to use the total for both years and does not enter any dates.

How should the M.E. Optimizer be used?
