I keep getting an error that I need to add the spouse's income to claim him as a dependent. Both husband and wife are check that they have no dependents. I paid and went to Netfile and it wouldn't let me as it wants the income for the spouse. I don't see anywhere to list that and as it is being done as a joint filing, why wouldn't it know that that is not a valid claim. This is what I see on both the wife and the husband's errors when trying to finish the returns.
| K: Your spouse/partner's net income for the year is required to properly calculate your tax return. If you don't enter it, when the CRA receives your spouse/partner's return you will be reassessed and you'll owe the difference in your refund or tax payable, plus interest. Your spouse/partner's net income is required even if they passed away during the tax year. |
If someone is married/common law, even if they are preparing their returns separately from their spouse/partner, they will need to provide their spouse's income. This FAQ has more details: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/community/other-income/help/how-do-my-spouse-and-i-know-what-ou...
