It may let you Netfile through the software, but that does not mean CRA won't flag it as falsified.
I definitely do not trust changing the values on a T3 just to enable TurboTax to get past a validation checkpoint that incorrectly performs decimal math.
I am having this same issue where the sum of the numbers is correct and it won’t let me file my taxes. When will this error be fixed?
After talking with the TT agent over the phone who has been having many calls related to this her answer that worked for me was to put box 21 in normally and then put the same amount in box 52 under total capital gains or in both foreign and total if you have foreign income as well. So for example my box 21 says 61.23 and both my box 52’s have 61.23 in it aswell. Then remove all numbers from both box 53’s and it will then allow you to netfile. I was so frustrated I’m so glad there was a solution.
This is extremely disappointing Turbotax. I had expected better.
Would not entering the amount from box 21, in box 52 and/or 53 not be a double entry of the same amount? I entered the amount from box 21 into box 52 and it reduced my expected return?
Would the box 21 total not already be taken into account when calculating the expected return?
I tried different work arounds, that seem to work. I left the amount in Box 21. I then put the same amount in Box 51 or 52 but not both. it brought the amount that I inputted to Schedule 3. I calculated it manually and there is no duplication. In my case I had a T3 with Box 21, but no amounts in Box 52 or Box 53. Being in Quebec, the REL-16 would not register the amount that I had in Box 21 into Box A of REL-16. I have not yet Netfiled to see if it will be accepted by both CRA and MRQ. On another note, if you have a Consolidated T5008, and you do not put a date of when the transaction(s) occurred, TurboTax will not transfer the amount to Schedule 3. In that case I put the date of December 31, 2024, and it brought the numbers to Schedule 3.
MESSAGE TO TURBOTAX(TT). WE AS USERS SHOULD NOT BE DOING WORKAROUNDS. I HAVE USED TT FOR YEARS AND THE USERS SHOULD JUST TAKE THEIR SLIPS AND INPUT IT INTO THE CORRESPONDING SLIP IN TT. MANY PEOPLE USING THE PROGRAM ARE NOT ACCOUNTANTS SO WE EXSPECT IT TO BE CORRECT FROM TURBOTAX. FIX THE ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!
My last message should have read Box 52 and Box 53 and not 51 & 52....
Making box 53 and/or 53 equal to box 21, would this not constitute a double entry for this same amount.
I have tried testing my theory and when the dollar Value from box 21 on the T3 is entered in box 52 and/or 53 to equal box 21. When this is done the error is remove but it also reduces the initial amount calculated in the return before resolving the error with the entry.
I just tried it again as I described. My manual calculations, for my return of that of my spouse equate to the amount that Turbotax calculated when I made the adjustments that I described in an earlier post. I even went 1 step further and just left the boxes 52 and 53, and I removed the amount in Box 21, and I get the same result. No duplication was seen. So it seems that with the current version of TT, it doesn't seems to matter what amount is in Box 21.
Again as I said, it is up to Turbotax to fix the issue and not the user to use workarounds that may or may not be accepted by the CRA and MRQ.
Also, the reason that it lowers the initial amount, which I am assuming that you receive less of a refund, it is because entering any amount in Box 21 has no effect in the calculations of your taxes. You can put a $1M in that box and it will not take it into account, UNLESS you put an amount into Box 52 or 53
