Yes, you can use TurboTax software found here: TurboTax Online, you will need to print to mail your return.

Please ensure that all other returns have been completed before proceeding with this one.

As per the regulations, the trustee must file an income tax and benefit return on your behalf for the year immediately before the year of bankruptcy, if you did not file it yourself. Additionally, the trustee must file a pre-bankruptcy return for the period from January 1 up to the day before the date of bankruptcy. The trustee may also file an in-bankruptcy return to report income from liquidated assets (such as RRSPs) or from businesses that the trustee winds up for the benefit of creditors.

It is your responsibility to file an income tax and benefit return for the post-bankruptcy period, which is from the date of bankruptcy to December 31, if the trustee does not do so on your behalf. When filing a return for the year of bankruptcy, it is important to indicate whether it is a pre-bankruptcy, in-bankruptcy, or post-bankruptcy return above the "Identification" section on page 1 of the return.

Please note that trustees should not insert their address in the "Identification" section when preparing any return on your behalf, as the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy provides us with the relevant contact information for all registered trustees. Please note that NETFILE cannot be used to file your tax return if you went bankrupt in 2023 or 2024 (excluding a proposal for bankruptcy) or if you are a non-resident of Canada.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

When you say I have to indicate post-bankruptcy return above the Identification section - is there a place in Turbo Tax On-line return to do that or do I indicate that when I print off the return and file it manually.   Also as there is self employed income post-bankruptcy the software is calculating CPP for a full year instead of only for the post-bankruptcy portion.

Thank you

Unfortunately, there is no place in the Online software to indicate bankruptcy. As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA): "When an income tax and benefit return is filed by you or the trustee for the year of bankruptcy, it is important to clearly indicate that it is a pre-bankruptcy, in-bankruptcy, or post-bankruptcy return above the "Identification" section on page 1 of the return." You will need to write this in after printing your return and before mailing it by post as required by the CRA.

As per the CPP calculation, we believe your best option is to contact our telephone support team for further assistance, as they have the option to view your screen to help resolve the issue. To contact them, please follow this link: Contact Us. When asked if you wish to receive an email say NO then say "speak to a representative" then hold the line.
