The latest Turbo Tax said CRA has succesfully resolved the issue with error code 95365. However, I am still getting the error code 95365 when I tried to netfile. CRA message says: "You reported a capital gain from a T3 slip on line 17600 of Schedule 3. An entry is also required on line 68140 in Chart A of Form T936. Line 68140 cannot be less than line 17600." I checked T936 and Line 68140 is locked to havea zero value, even though Box 21 total for all T3 slips has the value on Line 17600 of Schedule 3.
When I tried to override T936 Line 68140 to the amount equal to Line 17600 of Schedule 3 and netfile again, I got the error message that return was not accepted and I must remove the override. What do I do?
I did the override too and Turbotax told me that Netfile would not work with an override if it is part of a formulae. Not much we can do until Turbo tax fixes the error so it transfers the vale from the T3 to the T936 form. Phone them to put more pressure on them. This is so frustrating as every time I phone them they shift the fix date.
I found what the problem is (at least for me). On the 7th of April I netfiled my taxes just fine. When I attempted to do the same for my wife I got the "famous" error. So today I tried to see what exactly is going on with the forms and found out the problem (at least what is applicable to me and my wife, but I am sure this might help lots of you guys too).
The software made a wrong decision that my wife's T936 is empty and it closed it. The form is NOT empty and I can see it.
So to prove the concept I printed to pdf twice - once selecting to "close unused forms" and once NOT closing unused forms. And voila - T936 was there, but ONLY if I kept unused forms open.
When netfiling you are not presented with this choice - to close or not and that's why you cannot netfile.
I just got off the phone with support trying to see how I can force to keep the forms open when netfiling but unfortunately there is no way.
Bottom line - you can print your forms, select not to close unused forms and snail mail it to CRA. This way if TT fails to deliver a fix, we will not be fined (at least those of us that owe money) for late filing.
Just my 2 cents.
@RBCM The error CRA resolved is not the error that people are encountering now. CRA was giving an erroneous 95365 error because of box 52 and 53 and some rounding issues. This instance of error 95365 was deemed fixed (although I believe you still have to move the amount from box 52 and add to box 53 (equal to box 21)
Net filers are getting error 95365, legitimately because the TurboTax software is not populating line 68140 in form T936 if you are also reporting a capital loss. We are waiting for a fix. TT says they are working on a fix but as of yesterday they did not have a date.
If you try to Netfile more than 5 times unsuccessfully you will be locked out but you can call CRA (number on error message). I personally will only attempt another Netfile, once I see line 68140 populated.
You are not alone. There have been several suggestions put forward on this blog.
The one that I followed was: Delete the T3 capital gain from Box 21 & 53, checked that there was nothing on Schedule 3 line 17600 or T936 line 68140, saved the return and went through the Net File process. Success.
I had a capital loss on T5008 so no effect on the refund - but it will affect the capital loss carryforward. I will wait until CRA issues their Notice of Assessment which may adjust for the missed capital gain or will file an adjustment then
In my case line 68140, or 68150 were empty but I was still able to netfile my return.
In my wife's case the whole T936 was missing and that's how I got the error.
I got T3 capital gains (Box 21) and also T5008 realized capital losses. All amounts were entered correctly and show up on Schedule 3 as they should, but got the Error Code 95365 when I tried to netfile. I made all the changes suggested by Turbo Tax to remove Box 52 and make sure Box 53 equal to Box 21, as well as the rounding suggestions. Tried to netfile and got the same error code every time. I did what CRA message says to override T936 Line 61480 and put in a value equal to Line 17600 of Schedule 3. Tried to netfile and return was not accepted unless I remove the override.
For whatever reasons, the last time I tried to netfile, I got CRA message that my account is locked and I need to contact CRA. So be careful not to try too many times. I don't know if this is Turbo Tax netfile issue or CRA issue. Still don't know how to unlock my account, as CRA chat box only sent me the link how to contact CRA, and my line was cut off every time after being on hold for over an hour trying to call CRA.
Thank you for your reply. CRA message did not give me a number to call. It only gave me the link to a virtual chat box which sent me the link to contact CRA , and no offer to talk to a live agent. I already tried to call CRA individual line many times, but I was cut off every time after being on hold for over an hour.
Totally agree. Form T936 is not populating Line 68140 with the information from the T3 slip dialogue. I believe this would work if it would do that, and it should automatically. I have a $3K+ total for all my T3 Box 21s and this figure is not populating Line 68140 on T936.
Have tried filing a few times now (on April 16 at midnight) using the suggestions provided by TT. They make no difference. TT should fix this before we all run out of Netfile attempts.
I contacted CRA Wednesday morning, to verify what T936 expects, there is a wait... I called for explanation of T936 but there is an option (press 1) to get your account unlocked. (it tells you to have tax documents available to validate account, maybe T1 from last year?...) This link was on my https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/contact-information.html#tbl-personal If you click on the link, you get this message and it shows a wait time.
It seems I cannot put phone numbers in this message but if you click the link above, then you should see something like this with phone number...
