My husband's return keeps coming up with this error:
The entry for province or territory of self-employment is not the same as your province of residence at December 31st. Your return is not eligible for NETFILE. If this is incorrect changes can be made under the self-employment profile question in the Personal Profile section of the EasyStep interview. |
We moved provinces in 2024. He did not have any self-employment (I did, and my claim went through right away). I've checked to see if there is anything listed under self-employment on his return and there is not. What else can I trouble shoot? |
Hello, follow the prompts to fix the error, enter an address that is the same as the province where you currently reside. This will not impact your return and should eliminate the error.
It's not coming up as an error in Turbotax - it won't let us Netfile. He does not have self-employment income, or a business. He did have to enter other employment expenses to account for a payment that went directly to his LTD insurance provider; but this wasn't entered anywhere as self-employment income.
@henrybubbles If your husband entered an amount from any of the boxes on the slips listed here, he has what the CRA considers to be self-employment or business income:
If he has an amount in any of these boxes, TurboTax will ask additional questions to report the income as self-employment/business income. He only needs to answer basic information, such as business name and address (can be his own), industry code, and fiscal period (Jan 01 to December 31).
